2016 was a successful year at the Annual Durham School Career Fair, held October 3-5 at the Scott Conference Center. Over 80 employers were represented and approximately 300 students were in attendance throughout the day.

On the evening preceding the all-day event, students who held summer internships came together with their employers and faculty to give presentations about their experiences.  The students gained valuable presentation skills by sharing their experience to audience members. They were also able to obtain insight from peer students by listening to them describe their summer internships.  Industry partners had the opportunity to showcase the projects that their intern worked on to a large group of peer industry professionals. The internship presentations also provided the platform for students to express much deserved gratitude to their industry partners for the mentorship and support received throughout the summer. Last but not least, faculty had the opportunity to see that the students they have taught are “getting it”.  They can see this in the classroom by way of tests and papers, but for a student to hit the ground running in an internship, working in their respective career field, before they possess a degree, faculty members observe that the time and energy they spend with their students is making a difference. Congratulations to all participating individuals, on a job well done!

The day after the Career Fair, many employers came back to the Scott Conference Center to host interviews for internship positions and full time employment.  There were 36 stations available for these interactions.  This is a great opportunity for students to meet with employers who are from out of state to learn about their company and for the employer to decide if a prospective student would be a good fit in the position they are looking to fill.  The Durham School wishes all involved the best in developing the relationships built at this year’s fair and look forward to another successful, and perhaps, largest yet Career Fair in October 2017!
