Turkey 2011

Week 1

August 8th, 2011

Dates: 7/18-7/24

This week I focused a lot on Impact-echo and straight line velocity testing.

During the beginning of the week I selected and assessed block candidates for my testing.  I chose two similar blocks for the majority of my testing.  These two blocks have similar dimensions both in section and elevation.

A general note taking procedure was decided upon and testing commenced this week with a majority of the week spent on attempts to get baseline data for straight-line velocity tests.  In addition, this week was spent documenting procedures, measuring, and sketching the blocks AT065 and AT071.

By the end of this week, some issues had arisen, including: battery consumption with Siglab (data analyzing software), general testing difficulties, as well as dialing in the equipment to yield positive results.

Antioch Ad Cragum

August 4th, 2011

Despite the season coming to a close here in Gazipasa, Turkey, I will attempt to recount the last 3 weeks in successive posts.

During the past 3 weeks, my time has been distributed between impact-echo testing, in conjunction with modal testing, some archaeology, and the entire process of moving blocks from the temple mound to the block fields.
