Engineering: Events

Sr. High EEW is a one-week day camp comprised of mini-workshops for students entering grades 10-12. The camp is held at The Peter Kiewit Institute (PKI) in Omaha, where participating students explore engineering programs available through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering on the Omaha Campus.

The workshops will be held June 3-7, 2013. Lunch will be provided each day for the students at no additional cost.

If you have a passion for science and math, join us for fun activities that will give you a better understanding of the many facets of engineering.

Pay by the session or participate in all five days for the discounted price of $180.
Computer & Electronics Engineering
Monday, June 3 / 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

In this advanced robotics session, participants will have the opportunity to look at the computer and electronic foundation of robots and learn what makes them work. By the end of the day, it will be you creating and designing a robot to make your life a little easier.

Construction Engineering and Construction Management
Tuesday, June 4 / 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Construction Engineering and Construction Management are growing occupations that incorporate the skills necessary to design and/or manage multimillion dollar projects. These skills provide you the opportunity to travel the country and the world. In this session, we will learn the basics of construction project management, such as working on teams, and construction engineering as it relates to building structures. We will divide into teams and build a bridge using K'nex, which we'll then test to see how much weight it can hold. Most importantly, we'll have fun!

Civil Engineering
Wednesday, June 5 / 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Civil engineering is the art and science of designing the infrastructure that make up a CIVILized society. This infrastructure includes: highways, buildings, railways, bridges, airports, tunnels, and water reservoirs. Civil engineers design structures that meet the needs of growing populations while protecting the environment, reducing the dangers from natural hazards like earthquakes, and considering future needs of the community. Join us in learning how cool it is to be a civil engineer!

Architectural Engineering
Thursday, June 6 / 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Have you ever wondered what happens once a building is designed? Your questions will be answered in this fun, interactive workshop where you will learn how buildings are designed in relation to the acoustics and electrical/lighting systems of a building.

Industry Visit Day
Friday, June 7 / 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Participants will travel to local engineering firms to tour their facilities and meet with current engineering professionals to learn more about the field of engineering.
