ELEC 421/821: Semiconductor Fundamentals
The objectives for this course are for the students to:
- demonstrate knowledge in the basic semiconductor properties, especially charge carrier densities and charge carrier movement due to drift and diffusion;
- apply the concepts of quantum mechanics to ascertain semiconductor properties;
- understand the limitations placed upon semiconductors by such phenomena as generation and recombination in the bulk and at surfaces and interfaces;
- be able to calculate static and dynamic characteristics of a pn junction diode; and determine current-voltage characteristics of other diodes such as Schottky barrier diodes.
