Humanities and Social Sciences Electives

Engineering and construction management majors who graduate on the Lincoln campus are required to complete a program of 18 credit hours (6 courses) in the social sciences and humanities.

  • At least five courses must be chosen fromfour of the AREAS C, E, F, G, H listed below (minimum of 15 credits).
  • No more than one course (maximum of 3 credits) may be chosen from AREA I with the approval of an academic adviser and the associate dean.
  • At least two courses must be taken from a single department.

Course work in humanities and social sciences helps to fulfill the Comprehensive Education requirement in Essential Studies.

NOTE: Courses in bold indicate an Integrative Studies course.

AREA I: Other

Your academic adviser and the associate dean must approve in advance any course not listed in AREAS C, E, F, G or H. Any approved course designated as AREA I (Other) will not satisfy the UNL Essential Studies requirement, but it may be used for up to three credit hours towards Humanities/Social Sciences requirement for engineering and construction management students.

News & Events:


• Mustafa "Cenk" Gursoy, assistant professor of electrical engineering, received "The 2004-2007 Journal of Wireless Communications and Networking Best Paper Award" from the European Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP), founded in 1978. The award will be presented during the 17th EUSIPCO Conference: August 24-28, 2009 in Glasgow, Scotland. Gursoy co-wrote the award-winning paper, "On-Off Frequency-Shift Keying for Wideband Fading Channels," published in 2006, with H. Vincent Poor and Sergio Verdœ.

• P. Frazer Williams, UNL's Lott Distinguished Professor Emeritus with the Department of Electrical Engineering, is one of 360 journal reviewers receiving the American Physical Society's Outstanding Referee designation, a lifetime honor, in 2009. The APS has 47,000 physicist members worldwide.

• Dr. Paul Snyder, Associate Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department, recently received a Recognition Award from the UNL Teaching Council and UNL Parents Association. This is the second recognition award Snyder has received.
