Graduate Students


The Department of Civil Engineering at UNL offers programs of research and instruction leading to the Master of Science in Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering and the Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering. These programs are offered on both campuses of the university in Lincoln and Omaha.

Graduate students in Civil Engineering typically specialize in one of the following areas:
  • Environmental Engineering
  • Geotechnical Engineering
  • Structural Engineering
  • Transportation Engineering
  • Water Resources Engineering


The department offers a master's degree in Civil Engineering on both the Lincoln and Omaha campuses, administered through UNL. The Master of Science (M.S.) degree requires completion of 30 to 36 credits of coursework depending on the option chosen.


The Master of Science in Environmental Engineering (M.S. EnvE) program is a multi-disciplinary, interdepartmental program jointly administered by the Departments of Civil Engineering and Biological Systems Engineering. 


The department offers a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering on both the Lincoln and Omaha campuses, administered through UNL. Many research opportunities are available depending on the individual interests of faculty and students.
