Concrete testProject: Shear limit of NU I-Beams

Sponsor: Nebraska Department of Roads Lincoln, Nebraska

The objective of this testing was to verify the simplified LRFD shear design procedures. A post-tensioned NU girder was loaded to failure under 1.2 million pounds of shear loading.

 

Concrete testProject: Intermodal chassis fatigue testing

Sponsor: Chief Industries, Inc. Grand Island, Nebraska

The objective of this testing was to verify the fatigue resistance of the retrofitted Anysizer container chassis. The lower frame chassis sustained 200,000 cycles of cyclic loading between 30,000 and 45,000 pounds without fatigue fracture. High stress regions on the chassis were also instrumented with strain gages.

 

Concrete testProject: Picking beam capacity evaluation

Sponsor: First National Bank of Omaha Omaha, Nebraska

The objective of this testing was to verify the picking beam used in construction had adequate lifting capacity. The testing configuration was the same as that used in the field. The picking beam had a capacity of 20,000 pounds without undergoing plastic deformation.

 

 

Concrete testProject: Precast concrete floor slab for housing

Sponsor: Prestressed Concrete Institute

The objective of this testing was to evaluate a new precast floor slab system for residential construction. The floor system was cast in our prestressing bed. The grid system has cut-outs for duct work. The 30-foot system had a loading capacity of 15,000 pounds with a 2.75 inch deflection at the center of the floor span.

 

Concrete testProject: Spliced I-Girder concrete bridge system

Sponsor: Nebraska Department of Roads Lincoln, Nebraska

The objective of this testing was to determine the interface shear strength of a spliced post-tensioned girder bridge. Spliced I-girders are flexible and cost-effective bridge system that does not require a different pier segment from the standard NU I-girder shape.
