A record number of participants attended the ninth annual Women Interested in Engineering conference Sept. 16.
Sixty-three high school students and their parents attended WIIE, which was designed to encourage young women to pursue engineering careers. Students and faculty led hands-on activities to introduce participants to various engineering disciplines. The keynote speaker was Angel McMullen-Gunn, a 2003 graduate who is a mechanical engineer for Hamilton Sundstrand in York.
Students from Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and South Dakota attended WIIE, which was co-hosted by the College of Engineering and the student chapter of the Society of Women Engineers.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering hopes to kick off a new Husker tradition this football season.
During each home game, College of Engineering students will unroll an 80' x 60' "Power of Red" flag in sections 9 and 10 in East Stadium. The flag will be unfurled after the Cornhusker Marching Band plays the national anthem.
