Construction management blends construction knowledge with business principles for the planning and execution of projects designed by architects and engineers. Construction managers coordinate a diverse workforce in order to ensure that projects advance on time and within budget. Functions of a construction manager typically include:

  • Specifying project objectives and plans including delineation of scope, budget, and schedule, setting performance requirements, selecting project participants and quality control.
  • Maximizing resource efficiency through judicious procurement of labor, materials and equipment.
  • Implementing and completing construction activities through coordination and control of scheduling, contracting, estimating and cost control.
  • Developing effective communications protocols and mechanisms for resolving conflicts associated with the construction process.
