Richard Hayter

Richard Hayter, associate dean for external affairs for the College of Engineering, is a licensed professional engineer, a former cabinet member for the Kansas governor and has served as the mayor of Manhattan. In 2000, the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce named Hayter Citizen of the Year for his service to the community as well as his professional accomplishments.

Since joining the K-State faculty in 1980, Hayter has worked as a professor of mechanical engineering, assistant director of K-State Research and Extension, director of engineering extension and part-time legislative liaison for the university. During his time at K-State, he also served on the governor's cabinet as director of the Kansas Energy Office.
