Yulia Tyukhova Selected as Recipient of Jonas Bellovin Scholar Achievement Award
The Nuckolls Fund for Lighting Education recently announced Yulia Tyukhova (AE PhD student) as the 2014 recipient of the $5,000 Jonas Bellovin Scholar Achievement Award for demonstrating outstanding performance in an established lighting program.
Yulia is an architectural engineering PhD student, under the supervision of Dr. Clarence Waters, at the Peter Kiewit Institute. Her research is on discomfort glare in outdoor nighttime environments. A discomfort glare metric is necessary for comparing lighting installations (e.g. parking lots, sport stadiums, etc.), minimizing glare, and ensuring a comfortable visual environment. Proper outdoor nighttime lighting enhances safety of drivers on roads and people on the streets.
Yulia will be recognized for her achievement at the Nuckolls Fund annual LIGHTFAIR conference on June 3, 2014.
