About Asregedew Woldesenbet

Dr. Woldesenbet joined the Durham School of Architectural Engineering and Construction (DSAEC) in fall 2014. Before joining DSAEC, he was a lead researcher in the Data Analytics Lab for Project and Infrastructure Management (DALPIM) at the Institute for Transportation (InTrans). During his post at InTrans, he was responsible for investigating multiple national levels and state wide research projects in the area of civil infrastructure and asset management. Dr. Woldesenbet has contributed in writing multiple proposals that brought in more than $300K of research funds to the research group. As part of a service, he has been serving as a reviewer of several journal and conference papers like the ASCE Journal of Construction Engineering and Management and Construction Research Congress. His area of expertise is in advanced construction engineering and  management, which tends toward data and information integration; infrastructure asset management, development and evaluation of project management information systems, development of prediction models, application of data mining and business analytic tools to improve the decision-making process and enhance construction productivity, project control, and cost estimation.

Dr. Woldesenbet has also three years of industry experience in the field of civil engineering, structural design, construction supervision and quality control of residential and commercial buildings. He is currently teaching construction equipment and methods (CNST 2410/CONE 3190) and lead data miner in a National Corporate Highway Research Program (NCHRP) research project and serving the NCHRP as an expert panel. Dr. Woldesenbet is a SAS Certified Predictive Modeler using SAS Enterprise Miner 6 and has a SAS and OSU Business Data Mining Certificate with active membership of professional organizations including American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) and Project Management Institute (PMI). His extra-curricular activities include serving the community through voluntary works and mentorship in collaboration with organizations like ASCE, Chi Epsilon, Engineers Without Borders and National Society of Black Engineers. Dr. Woldesenbet received his Ph.D. in construction engineering and management from Iowa State University, master’s degree and bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Oklahoma State University and Bahir Dar University respectively.
