Zero-Threshold Decision Support Tools for Existing Buildings

The goal of this research thrust is to develop and demonstrate enabling technologies that can empower homeowners to convert their homes into net-zero energy buildings in a cost-effective manner. This involves 1) developing rapid and scalable building information collection and modeling technologies that can obtain and process “as-built” building information in an automated or semi-automated manner; 2) identify low-cost measurements and develop low-cost virtual sensors that can monitor building operations in a plug-n-play and low-cost manner; 3) integrating and demonstrating low-cost building information modeling (BIM) technologies; and 4) developing decision support tools which can empower building owners to perform energy auditing and retrofit analysis.
