Bin Yang, a doctoral student with mechanical and materials engineering, received a Gold Award for his research on “Fullerene Based Organic Schottky-Junction Devices for Large Open-Circuit Voltage Organic Solar Cells.” Yang presented the work at the Materials Research Society’s international Fall 2013 meeting in Boston, on Dec. 4.

Jinsong Huang, assistant professor and Yang’s mentor, said the achievement is a great honor for Yang and UNL.

“Generally only Ph.D. students from top materials programs at the most elite universities receive this award,” Huang said. “The MRS Gold Award is among the highest honors for graduate students studying materials, and most of the winners go on to stellar careers in research and academia.”

Huang’s research group focuses on achieving high performance, low cost organic electronic and nanoelectronic devices, including organic solar cells.
