Annual College of Engineering Events:
Discover Engineering Days
The College of Engineering started Discover Engineering Day in 2001 to introduce 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students and their teachers to the various fields of engineering and the engineering programs offered at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The event is filled with hands-on activities that apply math, science and creative thinking skills. Approximately 400-500 students participate each year.

E-Week
A tradition since 1913, E-Week recognizes and rewards engineers' accomplishments. Current students celebrate the end of the academic year by participating in the Quiz Bowl, Scavenger Hunt, Root Beer Float Night, and many other activities. The week culminates with the annual E-Week Open House in the spring, during which senior engineering students and graduate students display their research projects, corporate representatives host booths to promote their companies, and high school students partake in information sessions and hands-on activities that highlight the benefits of becoming an engineer.

N.U.B.E. Camp
Rock the Dock
The annual Women Interested in Engineering Day invites females in grades 10-12 in October to learn about the dynamic opportunities available in engineering and construction management.
This competition is designed for high school students across the United States as part of Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS) and focuses on the areas of engineering, mathematics, science, and other related technical fields. The one-day open note and open discussion competition includes a multiple choice test and an essay portion. Schools from across Nebraska participate each year
N.U.B.E. Camp is an overnight retreat that gives new engineering students a head start in their transition to college. The camp provides incoming first-year students at the Lincoln campuses the opportunity to meet fellow classmates, faculty, and staff. There are a variety of social activities, interactive team building, and important information given by current students, faculty, and staff.
Rock the Dock is an event started in 2007 and organized by the College of Engineering to kick off the new school year. This free event at the city campus is for all current College of Engineering students and includes music, games and food.
Other College of Engineering Events:
-
Engineering New Student Orientation & Advising (Omaha Campus)
This event is an opportunity for newly admitted out-of-state and out-state students to complete their testing (chemistry & calculus placement), participate in UNO's New Student Orientation and complete their advising all in one day. This event is held annually in early June.
-
Engineering Departmental New Student Orientations (Omaha Campus)
A tradition that started in 2006, this program is offered the week before classes and provides an opportunity for newly enrolled students to interact with their department's faculty, staff and students. Parents are welcome. For those who have registered for the N.U.B.E. Camp, this event is a precursor to that program, but attending N.U.B.E is not a requirement to participate.
-
PKI Welcome Week
A tradition since 2001, PKI Welcome Week allows our current students to become more acquainted with the college through various activities. The week kicks off with a pancake breakfast and is followed by student resource fairs, a Union Pacific-sponsored hot dog lunch, and BBQ and Jazz in the Scott Hall Courtyard. No student should go hungry during this week.
-
PKI Fall and Spring Open Houses
Our open houses allow prospective students and their families to see the Omaha engineering facilities, tour housing, and meet with faculty, staff and current students. The Fall Open House is scheduled at the end of October; the Spring Open House is held in late-February.
-
PKI IST&E-Week
A tradition since 2002, PKI E-Week is held in February during National Engineers Week. Activities include a pancake kick-off, professional speakers, Junior and Senior High Discovery Days, a "Brains & Brawn" Competition for current students, a sponsored event for the Boy Scout's Exploring Program, and to complete the week, the PKI Spring Open House.
-
Engineering Exploration Week (EEW)
EEW is a one-week summer day camp hosted at The Peter Kiewit Institute (PKI) and comprised of mini-workshops for students entering grades 10-12. Participating students explore engineering programs available in Omaha. The week is comprised of activities in Architectural, Civil, Construction, Computer and Electronics Engineering. The final day involves traveling to local engineering firms to tour their facilities, meet with current engineering professionals, and learn more about the field of engineering.
