Faculty/Staff Awards

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering succeeds on the strength of its people. Our faculty and staff work to advance the education of our students, frequently with above-and-beyond efforts. UNL values professional growth and personal contributions that improve our services, and we encourage reflection on best practices. Lagerstrom Award - Outstanding Academic Department

(Up to 1 award): Given annually to a College of Engineering department determined to be the best based on the following: student organizations, student activities, E-Week/IST&E Week participation and community/philanthropy.

No cash award given.

Nominated by faculty, staff, students or alumni of the college.

Holling Family Distinguished Senior Faculty Teaching Award

(Up to 2 awards): General teaching award open to the ranks of associate professor and professor

For each honoree:

(Up to 1 award): Honors innovative and creative use of instructional technology in the classroom

Holling Family Distinguished Engineering Educator Award

(Up to 1 award): A general teaching award open to all faculty ranks

$10,000 each year for three years

Holling Family Distinguished Teaching/ Advising/ Mentoring Award

(Up to 2 awards: 1 Lincoln, 1 Omaha):This award recognizes an individual faculty for her/his effectiveness as an adviser and mentor, as well as effectiveness as a classroom teacher.

For each honoree:
$2,500

Funded by the Holling Distinguished Teaching for Engineering Fund

Recipients chosen by eSAB.

 

Tau Beta Pi & Holling Distinguished Teaching Award:

(Up to 1 award): General teaching award open to all faculty ranks

Nomination and selection by members of the Nebraska Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi.

Faculty Research Awards
The following awards are nominated by faculty, staff, students, or alumni of the College of Engineering.

Edgerton Innovation Award

(Up to 1 award): Research award open to the rank of assistant professor (tenure track).

For honoree: $2,500 (personal prize); $10,000 (new Ph.D. student assistantship); $10,000 (unrestricted research)

Funded by Edgerton Innovation Award Fund

Nomination by department chairs only.

Faculty Research & Creative Activity Award

(Up to 3 awards--1 award per rank): Recognizes individuals for activities associated with investigation or experimentation aimed at the discovery and/or interpretation of facts, as well as the development of creative works or new products.

For each honoree:
$2,500

Funded by donors' annual gifts to the college

Faculty Service Awards
The following award is nominated by faculty, staff, students or alumni of the College of Engineering.

College of Engineering Faculty Service Award

(Up to 3 awards, 1 award per rank): Recognizes outstanding individuals for service to their department, college and university, as well as profession and community.

For each honoree: $2,500

Funded by donors' annual gifts to the college

Each department may nominate one individual per rank.
Staff Awards
Individuals may apply themselves or be nominated by any faculty, staff, student or alumnus of the College of Engineering.

College Staff Award for Outstanding Service:

(Up to 6 awards) Celebrates nominees demonstrating superior service and significant contributions to their units. The committee seeks nominees who apply innovative ideas relating to their area of work, professional development, educational and personal development, and community interests and activities.

For each honoree: $1,500

Funded by the Charles J. Vranek Fund for Engineering Excellence and/or donors' annual gifts to the college

Open to all full-time college staff who have worked in the college for more than six months. Recipients of an annual service award will not be eligible for nomination for two years.

College Staff Award for Outstanding Support of Research Activities:

(Up to 2 awards): Recognizes office/service level and managerial/professional level staff demonstrating superior support of research activities at department or college level

For each honoree: $1,500

Funded by the Charles J. Vranek Fund for Engineering Excellence and/or donors' annual gifts to the college

Open to all full-time college staff who have worked in the college for more than six months. Recipients of an annual service award will not be eligible for nomination for two years.

Dean's Award for Exemplary Service to Students by a College Staff Member:

(Up to 1 award): Presented to one office/service level or managerial/professional level individual for exemplary service to students in the college

For each honoree: $1,500

Funded by the Charles J. Vranek Fund for Engineering Excellence and/or donors' annual gifts to the college

Open to all full-time college staff who have worked in the college for more than six months. Recipients of an annual service award will not be eligible for nomination for two years.
Other University Awards (UNL/UNO)

Holling Family Master Teacher Award/UNL University-Wide Teaching Award

(2 awards): A general teaching award open to all faculty ranks. Recipients are recognized at UNL's spring Honors Convocation.

For each honoree:
$1,000 from the college;
$1,000 from UNL

Funded by the Holling Distinguished Teaching for Engineering Fund

Recipients recognized in April 2013 (see UNL Faculty Awards for submission deadlines)

UNO Alumni Association Outstanding Teaching Award

(1 award): A general teaching award open to all faculty ranks. Winner recognized at the Faculty and Staff Recognition Reception (UNO)

For honoree:
$1,000 from UNO;
$1,000 from the college

Funded by the UNO Alumni Association and donors' annual gifts to the college

Nominees must work on the Omaha campus. Recipient is selected by the UNO Alumni Association. Submissions due January 2013.
