Effective July 1, 2012, Professor Jim Hendrix is interim chair of UNL’s Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Hendrix assumes CHME department chair duties from Prof. William Velander, who held the D.R. Voelte Jr. and N.A. Keegan Endowed Chair in Engineering, and continues as a CHME faculty member.

Nebraska Engineering Dean Tim Wei said Velander “stepped down with the intention of building an NIH center in the coming years.” Wei added, “I am very pleased” that Hendrix agreed to serve as CHME’s interim chair.

Hendrix will work in this role no later than June 30, 2013; Wei expects that a new permanent chair will be in place by that date.

Hendrix joined UNL in 1995 and was previously with the University of Nevada-Reno for 25 years. In addition to his work with UNL Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Hendrix was dean of UNL’s College of Engineering from 1995 to 2001. Hendrix earned his Ph.D. at UNL in 1969; his master’s (1968) and bachelor’s (1966) degrees are also from UNL.
