Husker Motorsports teams wrap up stellar seasons

Despite experiencing an engine failure that prevented their car from finishing the endurance race on Saturday at Lincoln Airpark, the Husker Motorsports Formula SAE car capped its 2016 season with one of the strongest weekends in the team’s five-year history.

Coming off a ninth-place finish among the 28 teams in Barrie, Ontario, in early June, the team of UNL engineering students placed 12th out of 80 entrants in design and earned high finishes in three dynamics events – 17th in acceleration, 25th in skid pad and 26th in auto cross.

The Husker Motorsports Baja SAE team capped off the most-successful season in club history on June 12 in Rochester, New York, with a 37th-place finish in the endurance competition. Despite the disappointing finish in the final event, the team of UNL engineering students earned its best-ever finish – ninth in car design and top 20 finishes in hill climb (fifth), maneuverability (sixth), acceleration (13th), cost report (13th) and sales presentation (17th).
