BECOME A PEER COUNSELOR FOR THE
2016 ENGINEERING MATH PREP ACADEMY (MPA)


Applications are due MAY 2, 2016

MPA student staff will be responsible for 15-30 first-year engineering students in Omaha and will be expected to live at Scott Hall during the duration of the program. In addition to their responsibilities as student staff, they will assist first-year students in their transition to university life by sharing their experiences and advice.  The college plans to hire 4-5 student staff.  Those selected as peer counselors will need to complete necessary paperwork, in advance of MPA, to be hired on as student workers (total of 30 hours at $10 hour). 

REQUIREMENTS
  • Registered as a full-time student in the College of Engineering for Fall 2016
  • In good academic standing (prefer 3.0+ cumulative GPA but will also take into account involvement in extra curricular activities)
  • Live at Scott Hall during entire length of the academy
  • Must be available from SATURDAY, AUG. 6 – SUNDAY, AUG. 14, 2016 for program duties (staggered breaks will be available to provide for personal time)
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Attend MPA Peer Counselor training on Thursday, August 4, 3-5:30 p.m. (TENTATIVE)
  • Assist with participant check-in and welcome
  • Serve as a teaching assistant during instruction
  • Assist participants during evening team study sessions
  • Help organize and/or participate in weeknight and weekend activities (includes a service project)
  • Help guide students to daily scheduled activities
  • Ongoing participation in MPA events is encouraged during the 2016-2017 school year
  • Other duties as assigned
