International Year of Light Recognition Celebration
Durham School celebrates International Year of Light Nov. 5
The Durham School of Architectural Engineering and Construction celebrated the International Year of Light and Light-Based Technologies Nov. 5, 2015 at the college’s Omaha Campus at PKI. The event was in accordance with the United Nations General Assembly 68th Session proclamation.
The event included distinguished guest Howard M. Brandston, whose lighting design career spanned nearly five decades. In 1966, he founded the New York-based lighting design consultancy now known as Brandston Partnership Inc.; he and his staff were responsible for more than 3,500 projects worldwide, including the Statue of Liberty. The Illuminating Engineering Society features the annual Howard Brandston Student Lighting Design Education Grant, a competition in which UNL AE students have either won (5 times) or received honorable mention the last seven years.
The International Year of Light celebration also included presentations by alumni featuring lighting design projects, as well as tours of the facility and lighting lab.
