Jim entered the field of advanced technology in 1981 supplying projection based solutions to engineering groups within Fortune 100 companies. In 1989 he founded Pyramid Systems, a technology provider in the U.S., providing high fidelity visual environments used for research and engineering. In 1994, Pyramid formed a strategic and contractual relationship with the University of Illinois, Chicago, Electronic Visualization Laboratory (EVL), led by Tom DeFanti and Daniel Sandin, co-inventors of the CAVE.

In 1999 Pyramid and Fakespace Labs (Inventor – PINCH Gloves™, the BOOM™, the PUSH™) merged to form Fakespace Systems, Inc., the largest and most well rounded virtual environments provider globally. Eventually Electrohome Limited, Kitchener, Ontario purchased Fakespace Systems in 1999 (Electrohome was later bought by Christie Digital out of Japan).

In 2011 Jim joined AVI-SPL, Inc. as the General Manager for the state of Michigan, where he ran the operations of the Michigan group for 6 years. During this time, a variety of VR related designs and integrations were accomplished. As of April 1, 2017, Jim was moved into the role of VP Business Development for Advanced Visualization.
