SAE International is seeking volunteers for the 2015 Formula SAE Lincoln race-car design and performance competition that will be held June 17-20 at the Lincoln Airpark.

Volunteers are needed from among the engineering and automotive industries, motorsport enthusiasts and local business and academia. Volunteers will help with daily operations, the judging of student projects and working the race courses.

Time commitments require one to four days and those volunteering will be supporting a worthwhile educational experience for the nearly 1,200 students on 80-plus teams from across North America and the world.

Formula SAE Lincoln is an SAE International Collegiate Design Series event that has been hosted by UNL and Husker Motorsports annually since 2012. The Husker Motorsports team is comprised of 45 students, ranging from freshmen to graduate students.

For more information about volunteering, contact Kaley Zundel at kzundel@sae.org or (724) 772-8533, go to the volunteer website www.fsaeonline.com  or contact the SCCA at rvboreen@gmail.com or (317) 442-8500.

Formula SAE aims to provide real-world experience to young engineers and help to bridge the gap as they enter the workforce. Universities from across the globe accept the challenge to conceive, design, fabricate and compete with small formula-style race cars. The cars are built with a team effort over a period of eight to twelve months before reaching competitions where students are judged on knowledge and vehicle judged on performance.

The entrance to Formula SAE Lincoln is near the intersection of Northwest 36th and West Mathis streets, on the west side of the Lincoln Municipal Airport.

The four days of competition begins with tech inspections on Wednesday, to be followed Thursday with judging of design, cost and presentations.

The teams take to the tracks on Friday for the acceleration and skid pad and autocross event and final judging will take place with the design finals.

Competition concludes on Saturday with the endurance/fuel economy event from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., followed by the presentation of awards beginning at 5 p.m.

All four days of the Formula SAE Lincoln competition are open to the public. Food vendors will be on site from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
