Faculty Spotlight

"The only one who never makes mistakes is the one who never does anything" -- Theodore Roosevelt

Angela Pannier

What is your position at UNL?:

I am an Associate Professor, and one of the BME faculty members. I also have a courtesy appointment at UNMC.

What drew you to UNL?:

I am a BSE alumna and was honored and humbled to return as a faculty member to a department that did so much to prepare me for my career!  I was drawn to the outstanding students, faculty members, and research at UNL!

What aspect of working in an educational setting do you enjoy the most?:

I really love teaching and helping students realize how much they are capable of doing!

What are the most challenging and the most rewarding parts of your job?:

Grant applications can be very challenging, as can much of the work I do to ensure my research program is supported financially.  The most rewording parts of my job is when I see one of my students succeed.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?:

I am probably the most open faculty member, so not sure much is not known about me.  Maybe many people don’t know that I love music and musicals and spent many years playing the piano, oboe and saxophone.

What is your life like outside of work?:

I have two kids, Lilly (8) and Emerson (5) and I love them and love bringing them to campus. They both love science and music like I do (as does my husband)! I love shopping, shoes and fashion.  I have a garden every summer.  We spend most summer weekends at our cabin on a lake near Fremont.

Do you have any advice for current or prospective students?:

Learn to balance your time, get in a lab if you think graduate school is at all a possible path for you, keep your grades up, and embrace all the opportunities offered at UNL!
