ABET Accreditation: Civil Engineering

The Civil Engineering (BSCE) program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org, under the commission's General Criteria and Program Criteria for Civil and Similarly Named Engineering Programs Program Criteria.

Mission

Our mission is to contribute to the economic and social prosperity of communities and to steward the human, environmental and physical resources committed to our care in Nebraska and the world. We strive to meet this mission by:
  • Educating engineering professionals prepared for lifelong learning and personal growth.
  • Discovering, creating, and applying new knowledge and technologies in civil and environmental engineering.
  • Engaging with communities.
  • Safeguarding equity, inclusion, personal dignity, and respect for all.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

  1. Graduates are employed in civil and environmental engineering or a closely related field; or, graduates are pursuing an advanced degree in civil and environmental engineering or a closely related field.
  2. Graduates contribute to society and address societal and environmental needs through engagement in professional, community, or service organizations.
  3. Graduates agree that the Civil and Environmental Engineering program prepared them for success in their careers in terms of knowledge and skillsets as embodied in the program and the Complete Engineer(TM) Initiative.

Student Outcomes

  1. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
  2. An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
  3. An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
  4. An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
  5. An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
  6. An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusion
  7. An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies
