College of Engineering celebrates centennial

The UNL College of Engineering celebrated its first 100 years and looked ahead to its next century in a gala gathering at the Champions Club last night.

Master of ceremonies was Dean David H. Allen, who led a focus on the future of Nebraska Engineering and recognized longtime employees of the department, including dean emeritus Morris Schneider with 55 years of teaching at UNL.

John Ballard, professor of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering recalled his 35 years with Nebraska Engineering amid the setting of Nebraska Hall, one of the college’s facilities.

Bill Splinter, dean emeritus and National Academy of Engineering fellow spoke on the evolution of engineering and its impact for the state of Nebraska.

Among the honored guests were former dean Stan Liberty, who is now president of GM’s Kettering University.

The 100 guests enjoyed prime rib, birthday cake and the debut of a commemorative video about the UNL College of Engineering.
