About Abigail
I applied to be a Grand Challenge Scholar because I want to make a lasting impact with my engineering education. I can accomplish that goal by gearing my education towards engineering better medicine. Disease takes a terrible toll on society. Enormous progress has been made, but drug-resistant bacterial infections threaten to do away with much of it. Quality healthcare is far from accessible worldwide. Health plays a big role in human quality-of-life, and is a huge concern in today’s modern society, and these problems and others will take time and dedicated investment to address.

The Grand Challenge Scholars Program will inspire and push me to create the real change that I desire. I will be challenged to make a lasting impact on the world through life-saving research, creative innovation, community education, and international outreach. I will be required to develop new ideas and take action based upon the global and technological education I receive. The community I develop with other passionate scholars, and the resources I will be given access to, will empower me to make the difference I want to make.
