Durham School Regional Alumni/Industry Mixers and Recruitment Events

Once each spring (typically May) and once each fall (typically October)

The Durham School plans to visit different cities around the country in regular rotation (e.g. Denver, Minneapolis, Chicago, Kansas City, St. Louis, Dallas, and more) to host regional Alumni and Industry Mixers, as well as Outreach and Recruitment Dinners. At the Alumni and Industry Mixers, Durham School representatives look forward to meeting alums and other industry contacts, sharing recent Durham School successes, and brainstorming altogether on how to recruit more students from those regions into the fields of Architectural Engineering and Construction.

At the Outreach and Recruitment Dinners, local high school students, their families, high school counselors and teachers are invited to join us for an ‘Explore Architectural Engineering and Construction’ event. Representatives of the Durham School, including a panel of alums and recent students, will describe the work and opportunities in the booming fields of Architectural Engineering and Construction, and demonstrate how the UNL Durham School can well prepare students for those opportunities.

Durham School Future of the Building Industry (FoBI) Workshop and PhD Symposium

Annually in May

The 1.5-day Future of the Building Industyr (FoBI) workshop features invited speakers and participants from academia, industry, and government agencies, coming together to brainstorm and take actions towards realizing high-performance, sustainable and healthy ‘smart infrastructure’ of the future. Each year, the FoBI workshop theme is expected to change, alternating annually between occupant wellness/health and technologies/innovations towards ‘smart infrastructure’.

The FoBI workshop is immediately followed by a half-day PhD Symposium, during which a cohort of invited PhD Fellows from Architectural Engineering and Construction related programs are asked to present their scholarly work. All trip-related expenses for up to 15 selected external PhD Fellows are completely covered by the Durham School to attend the FoBI workshop and PhD Symposium each year.
