This summer I worked as a Project Engineer Intern at MCL Construction in Omaha, and I had the unique opportunity of working on the new Gretna East High SchoolProject. During my internship I not only had the opportunity of working closely with several project managers, superintendents, and project engineers, but also with the owner, architects, and multiple subcontractors. Being able to work with many different project team members has given me extremely valuable insight on interdisciplinary relationships and cross-coordination.
During my internship experience with MCL ConstructionI’ve been able to greatly improve my project management, communication, and leadership skills through a structured and tailored intern career path program designed to provide experience in each aspect of the project management pathway. I had the opportunity to be involved in almost every aspect of the project I was on, but the biggest highlight of my internship experience was getting the experience of setting up and conducting the entire buy-out and scope review processes of multiple scopes of work on my project.
This was a side of the project management pathway I had yet to get experience with, so it was exciting to be responsible for such an integral piece of the process.
