This summer I had the opportunity to intern as an electrical engineer at Burns and McDonnell in the Kansas City, MO office. I worked on several projects in the datacenter sector. One of the projects I worked on, I was able to assist in designing the security systems.
My internship experience has allowed me to build upon the concepts I learned in school by applying this to real life experiences. For example, I learned to perform various calculations such as voltage drop, sizing conductors, and conduits in the classroom and was able to see these processes applied to a project. I enjoyed learning from my team this summer everyone was always eager to answer my questions and explain the technical aspects of design. The work this summer allowed me to become more familiar with Revit when it comes to setting up a project. I also assisted in verify lighting levels using AGI32 throughout different areas in the datacenter.
Most importantly, my internship has provided me valuable insight into how much communication it takes to coordinate between various disciplines in order to provide the best solution for the client.
