Former electrical engineering chair Edison dies
Allen Edison, former chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering, died Jan. 24 in Lincoln. He was 90.
Edison was born in Plainview, Nebraska, on Sept. 21, 1926 and served in the United States Naval Reserve from 1944-46.
Upon leaving the Navy, Edison enrolled as an engineering student at the University of Nebraska, and graduated in 1950.
Edison went on to receive a doctorate in electrical engineering from the University of New Mexico in 1962 and was hired to teach at UNL, where he stayed for 34 years. He served as electrical engineering department chair from 1964-70. In 1986, Edison received the College of Engineering’s Distinguished Teaching Award.
A memorial service for Edison was held Jan. 30 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Lincoln.
