MEMP was founded by a group of mechanical engineering students in the fall of 2019 in the effort to provide more support to undergraduate mechanical engineering students. Although UNL has a lot of great resources, we felt that there was something missing. MEMP allows you to connect 1-on-1 with an older student who knows firsthand just how tough being a freshman engineering student can be, especially if you are a first generation college student or are from out of the state or country.

MEMP has three main focuses:
  1. Mentors answer questions and provide advice using their own personal experiences as mechanical engineering students.
  2. Mentors point mentees in the direction of existing UNL resources like study stops, tutoring, or counseling. There's a lot out there, so someone who knows all of these resources can make getting help a lot less overwhelming.
  3. Provide an avenue to make friends and network with students of all ages, and even alumni! You know what they say: it's not what you know, it's who you know.
In the future, we hope to integrate into the College of Engineering curriculum, eventually including all engineering majors!
