Amir Monemian Esfahani, a doctoral student in mechanical and materials engineering, has been chosen to recieve a 2020 Nebraska Center for Materials & Nanoscience Graduate Research Fellowship.

The award was created to provide awardees financial support during the final months of their doctoral programs.

Esfahani's research work in the lab of Professor Ruiguo Yang focuses on understanding the role cell-cell adhesion structures play in healthy and/or diseased cells. Working in the lab of Ruiguo Yang, professor of mechanical and materials engineering, Esfahani has developed small devices that can study the behavior of cells at a single-cell level. It is research that is part of Yang's work under a National Science Foundation grant.

Esfahani is one of two University of Nebraska-Lincoln doctoral students to receive the fellowship, joining Prescott Evans from Physics and Astronomy.
