Faculty/Staff Awards: College Faculty Teaching Awards

AWARD INFORMATION

College Faculty Teaching Awards are presented annually to up to four full-time College of Engineering (COE) faculty members ($2500 each) in the following categories:

  1. Excellence in Teaching (New Faculty): recognizes faculty members who demonstrate outstanding teaching excellence in general; open to Assistant Professors.
  2. Excellence in Teaching (Senior Faculty): recognizes faculty members who demonstrate outstanding teaching excellence in general; open to Associate and Full Professors.
  3. Excellence in Inclusive Teaching: honors a faculty member who has demonstrated an approach to teaching that considers the diverse needs and backgrounds of all students to create a learning environment where all students feel valued and where all students have equal access to learn; open to all faculty ranks.
  4. Excellence in Undergraduate Students Advising/ Mentoring: recognizes a faculty member for his/her effectiveness as an advisor and mentor, as well as effectiveness as a classroom teacher for undergraduate students. Recipients were selected by eSAB and NESCO; open to all faculty ranks.
  5. Excellence in Graduate Student Mentorship: celebrates a faculty member who exemplifies outstanding proficiency in fostering the growth and development of graduate students through expert guidance, insightful mentorship, and a profound commitment to their academic and professional journey. open to all faculty ranks.

REVIEW PROCESS

A selection committee appointed by the Dean composed of college faculty makes the recommendation of the award recipients to the Dean, based on submitted application materials.

The Excellence in Advising/Mentoring Award applications undergo assessment by the Engineering Student Advisory Board (eSAB) and the Nebraska Engineering Student Council at Omaha (NESCO), with subsequent submission to the Dean for consideration.

APPLICATION INFORMATION

  • An individual may be nominated by any faculty, staff, student or alumnus of the College of Engineering; self-nominations are accepted.
  • Nomination materials are to be submitted electronically through the on-line submission site, with uploaded documents in PDF format. Please have all materials ready to submit at one time; forms may not be saved and added to at a later time.
  • All submitted data should be from the last three academic years only: (2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23).
  • A person may not be nominated again at the same rank if she/he has received this award in the last five years; consequently recipients receiving the award in 2019 or later are ineligible for the 2024 award. A list of past recipients may be found on the college website
  • Each recipient of this award receives $2500.
  • In order to be considered for the 2024 COE Faculty Award, nominations must be submitted by: Friday, March 1, 2024 at 5 PM. Late nominations will be considered for 2025.
