Dr. Shi is currently looking for passionate and motivated students interested in pursuing a Ph.D. or an M.S., or experienced candidates working with her as a postdoctoral research associate in Biological Systems Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Undergraduate students interested in gaining research experience are also welcome to apply. Major research areas include, but are not limited to, remote sensing, data processing techniques to retrieve specific indicators of plant/soil status, decision support systems, and data management in agricultural production.

Preferred applicants for graduate study will have a background in one or more of the following areas: agricultural/biological systems engineering, agronomy, photogrammetry and remote sensing, unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), computer science, machine vision, and electrical and electronics engineering. Candidates who have software skills in general programming (e.g., C/C++, Python, or MATLAB), GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, ENVI, or ERDAS Imagine), and statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS, or JMP) are encouraged to apply; otherwise, these can be part of your expertise when you graduate. Technical writing is another important part of the graduate training. Candidates should show their proven technical writing history during the application.
