UNL AIChE Student chapter to host mid america regional conference

The annual Chem-E-Car competition, seminars by professional chemical engineers and an appearance by magician Chris Linn will headline the AIChE Mid America Regional Conference, March 28-29, 2008, at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Hosting the conference is the UNL chapter of American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

The conference will also feature a competitive paper competition and an awards banquet, where Linn will perform. Competitions will include cash awards for the top three places and the opportunity for student teams to compete at the National AIChE Annual Meeting in Pennsylvania in November 2008. AIChE is the world's leading organization for chemical engineering professionals, with more than 40,000 members from 93 countries.

More than 160 undergraduate chemical engineering students have registered to attend, with representation from Iowa State University, Kansas State University, Missouri University of Science and Technology, Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma University, University of Iowa, University of Kansas, University of Missouri, Columbia, University of Tulsa, and Washington University in St. Louis. The conference is sponsored by the Nebraska local and national sections of AIChE, Aquila, Black & Veatch, Cargill, the Timothy M. Carmann Excellence Fund, Chief Industries, Inc., FM Global, Runza, and Mr. Justin Vala.
