Electrical engineering is a high-level, high-demand field that needs individuals with the expertise to design, conduct and manage electrical systems in diverse areas. At Nebraska, we provide a broad, multidisciplinary program to prepare students for careers in industry and organizations, or to further their interest in academia and research.

Our M.S. program depends on the interests and future plans of the student. The length of time necessary to complete the M.S. program varies, but is typically two years for full-time enrollment. Research assistant and teaching assistant positions are available to work closely with world-class faculty in electrical and computer engineering.

Students in the program choose from three options to enhance their skills and knowledge, depending on their future goals. A specialization in Informatics is also available.

The Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering offers a broad spectrum of courses and research areas for students, including in solid state materials, optics, communications, signal processing, remote sensing, power, and VLSI design. Here, you can tailor your interests and skills and design your own experience while working with nationally and internationally recognized faculty.

Our programs are funded by various federal, state, and private agencies , featuring active research areas in such areas as biomedical engineering, digital and wireless communications, digital and VLSI design, digital signal processing, electro-optics, ellipsometry, mixed-signal circuit design, nanotechnology, optics of nanostructure materials, plasma processing, power systems, and remote sensing and electromagnetics.
