Faculty CAREER Award Resources

CAREER Award Support Materials

Below is a brief introduction to each of the ECEC-developed resources designed to support Faculty in writing the education components of the NSF CAREER Award. Additionally, we provide recommendations on which resources to complete prior to a consultation with the ECEC.

Effective Strategies Resource

This resource highlights six Effective Strategies for writing the education components of the NSF CAREER proposal. We asked College of Engineering Faculty who were successfully awarded within the last seven years to share their full proposals with us and conducted qualitative analysis on the education-related components. Here we present our findings of the most common themes included in these awarded proposals as Effective Strategies.

Example Outline Resource

A supporting document to the Effective Strategies Resource, the Example Outline Resource references Effective Strategy #5 and provides detailed information regarding the structural components that were most common in previously awarded proposals. See the Companion Activity to provide further direction on how to use the Example Outline Resource to organize your ideas and proposal components.

Companion Activity

The Companion Activity is designed to support Faculty as they brainstorm and organize thoughts and ideas related to the education components of the NSF CAREER Award, specifically referencing the Effective Strategies we present in the first resource. This activity is also designed to aid in individual consultations between faculty and the ECEC, as this resource outlines areas we can provide guidance for faculty in developing their ideas and organize the written components of the grant.

For individualized support in writing the education components of the NSF CAREER Award proposal, please reach out to Amie Sommers, Ph.D., the Senior STEM Education Specialist of the ECEC to set up a consultation (asommers2@unl.edu). Prior to meeting, we encourage you to look through the Effective Strategies and Example Outline Resources, and complete as much of the Companion Activity as you are able prior to meeting.
