The Charles W. Durham School of Architectural Engineering & Construction

Architectural Engineering Degree Programs

Architectural Engineering (AE) focuses on the design, integration and coordination of building engineering systems, including structural systems; heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems; acoustical systems; and lighting and electrical systems.

Students interested in architectural engineering have the best of both worlds: an academic program provided by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering, and program support of the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). To be admitted to the AE program, you'll apply through UNO. You will have the unique opportunity to join the Nebraska Engineering community and enjoy the benefits of the nearby UNO campus while studying at The Peter Kiewit Institute.

UNL's five-year program leading to a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Architectural Engineering degree is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org

Highlights

  • Demand for architectural engineering graduates is very high, because there are less than 20 programs in the country, while there are thousands of architectural engineering design firms
  • One of the top architectural engineering programs in the country
  • Many internship opportunities with Nebraska's concentration of architectural engineering design firms, including three of the country's largest firms

Degrees Offered in Architectural Engineering

  • Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering (B.S.)
  • Master of Architectural Engineering (MAE)
  • Master of Engineering with focus in Architectural Engineering (M.Eng.)
  • Master of Science in Architectural Engineering (M.S.)
  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

Facilities

The Architectural Engineering program is located in The Peter Kiewit Institute on the Omaha campus. The building design facilitates architectural engineering education by exposing systems and structure to provide a 'living laboratory' environment. The building also contains top-quality computing facilities. Among The Peter Kiewit Institute's teaching facilities are the following specialty labs:

  • Structures lab
  • Lighting lab
  • Building systems lab
