Troy is an adjunct professor with the Masters of Engineering Management program in the College of Engineering. 

He is also a patent attorney and partner at Suiter Swantz IP, where he provides services in patents, trademarks, trade secrets, copyrights, strategic analyses, and international intellectual property portfolio management. 

Troy holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Optics from the College of Optics at the University of Central Florida, a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nebraska Lincoln, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Nebraska College of Law. Troy is admitted to the Nebraska Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court, District of Nebraska. He is also registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Prior to practicing law, Troy worked a Postdoctoral Research Associate and later as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, where he helped grow a multi-disciplinary team to develop novel laser-based methods to tailor the properties of metals for applications such as efficient heat transfer and providing anti-bacterial properties. During his academic career, co-authored over 20 peer-reviewed journal publications, numerous technical conference presentations, and was a co-inventor on 3 patents related to his research.
