- An approved study abroad program is an academic experience in another country that has been reviewed and authorized by the UNL Global Experiences Office or the UNO International Programs Office. Approved programs ensure academic credit, safety, and overall quality, allowing students to progress toward their degree while gaining meaningful global experience. Approved program types may include:
- Faculty-led programs
- Direct enrollment at a foreign university for study or research
- Programs offered by trusted third-party providers
- Student Exchange Programs.
How much scholarship funding can I receive from the College of Engineering for education abroad?
Scholarship amounts vary each cycle based on demand and available funding. Awards from the College of Engineering or Global Experiences should be viewed as supplemental and are not expected to cover all program expenses.
I’m unsure which program I want to join. Can I still apply for a scholarship?
You may begin the scholarship application process, but the form requires basic information about your intended study abroad experience. To receive a scholarship, you must ultimately have an active program application on file with either the UNL Global Experiences Office or the UNO International Programs Office.
I already have a COE scholarship. Am I still eligible for a COE Education Abroad Scholarship?
Yes. Students with an existing College of Engineering scholarship are still eligible; however, priority is given to students who are not currently receiving a College of Engineering–specific scholarship.
I’m participating in a study abroad program through another academic college or provider. Can I still receive this scholarship?
Yes. Students participating in non-College of Engineering programs can still be considered. However, preference is given to students enrolled in College of Engineering faculty-led programs.
I need to pay a deposit or purchase airfare before leaving. Can I access my scholarship funds early?
No. According to federal regulations, financial aid will disburse seven to 10 days prior to the term during which the study abroad program is scheduled. Funds cannot be released earlier.
