The UNL College of Engineering invites you to apply for positions at one of the country's fastest growing engineering schools. We are undergoing an exciting period of significant growth, related in part to the university joining the Big Ten Conference in 2011. We anticipate hiring 100 new faculty in the next five years. An allocation of $2.5 million has been authorized for new faculty hires to start in Fall 2015, and this level of funding is expected to continue for several years. Program of Excellence in Manufacturing
A major focus of the college’s teaching, research and outreach enterprise in the coming decade will be on the three major industries of the state of Nebraska: manufacture of food, manufacture of civil infrastructure, and manufacture of equipment, devices and components. Consequently the College is seeking to hire a multidisciplinary group of faculty that have complementary expertise related to these manufacturing foci, including but not limited to: dynamics and controls; robotics and automation; materials science; sensors and sensor development; telecommunications to interface between sensors and computers; big data for real time monitoring and control; computational modeling; and systems and industrial engineering.
Program of Excellence in Biomedical Engineering
The UNL College of Engineering is strengthening collaborations and partnerships with the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Creighton University Medical Center, both located in Omaha, and Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln. Consequently, the College is seeking to hire a multidisciplinary group of faculty that have complementary expertise related to Biomedical Engineering.
Strategic Initiative in Big Data and Civil Infrastructure
The UNL College of Engineering is strengthening collaborations and partnerships with the University of Nebraska – Omaha College of Information Science and Technology and the Nebraska transportation and construction industries to develop and deploy the enabling technologies necessary for Big Data infrastructure health monitoring systems. Consequently, the College is seeking to hire a multidisciplinary group of faculty that have complementary expertise related to Big Data and infrastructure.
Program of Excellence in National Defense and Combatting Weapons of Mass Destruction
This College of Engineering effort is targeted at tenured/tenure-track faculty growth around the developing collaboration with partners such as the Strategic Air Command (STRATCOM) with the goal of combatting Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD). The University’s proximity to STRATCOM creates an ideal opportunity and environment for teamwork and cooperation in this arena. The College is in a unique position to align with STRATCOM’s combat mission and facilitate state-of-the-art research and development conducted here or at other partner institutions around the nation.
