For the fourth year in a row, the College of Engineering’s Master of Engineering Management (MEM) program is among the nation’s top 10 online programs as published in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings, released January 27, 2026. They include:

  • #6 in Overall Rank - Best Online Master's in Engineering Programs (tied)
  • #15 in Best Online Master’s in Engineering Management Programs (specialty ranking is entirely based on evaluation by peer institutions) (tied)
  • #5 in Best Online Master’s in Engineering Programs for Veterans

“To remain highly ranked among the other prestigious and reputable institutions each year is truly an honor as the methodology used by U.S. News for the Overall rankings is data driven, comprehensive, and competitive,” said Jena Asgarpoor, director of the program. “Being recognized by our students, peers, industry, and graduates for the quality of our program, excellence in our curriculum and instruction, and the value we offer is what drives us to continue delivering a world-class master’s degree in engineering management.”

The MEM program, offered in eight-week sessions, collaborates with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln online Master of Business Administration program and offers diverse courses in engineering management leading to a professional practice-oriented degree that combines business acumen with technical operational knowledge and skills to effectively lead engineering and technical people, projects and teams.

The web-based, 30-credit-hour program is offered 100 percent asynchronously online and ideal for working professionals in engineering, technology, and science industries, Asgarpoor said. The MEM is one of only 14 programs internationally certified by the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM) for exceeding their rigorous standards, and for its excellence in program instruction, delivery, and administration, and a curriculum that is aligned with the Engineering Management Body of Knowledge

“Our MEM is specifically designed for practicing engineers. We hire faculty members who are professionally qualified with relevant engineering industry experience and academically qualified with proper engineering education,” Asgarpoor said. They help students to connect theory to practice and apply classroom learning to challenges and demands they face in their profession.

The MEM program typically has about 100 active students at a time. This allows faculty and staff to remain responsive to students with the personal attention they deserve, Asgarpoor noted, and provides the opportunity for students to develop working relationships with other professionals.
