UNL engineering students among 29 chosen to Franco's List
UNL engineering students Samantha Nelson, a senior in biological systems engineering, and Tanner Gosda, a senior in chemical engineering, and chemical engineering student worker Paige Gerber are among the 29 UNL students honored for their positive characteristics and integrity by being named to "Franco's List." The honor - named after Juan Franco, UNL vice chancellor for student affairs - recognizes students identified as demonstrating the positive characteristics that are part of being a person of integrity.
ECE student takes third in national research competition
Ethiyal Raj Wilson, a physics and electrical engineering major, won third place in the NDConnect Undergraduate Research Competition for his presentation "Boron Carbide for Neutron Voltaics in Deep Space Missions and Other Applications." The event was part of the Notre Dame Competition in Nanoscience and Nanoengineering. Fourteen finalists were invited to present their research at the Notre Dame Center for Nano Science and Technology on Oct. 23. Wilson took home $1,000 for placing in the competition.
Nebraska Engineering/UNMC research team honored for surgical robot
A surgical robot developed in collaboration between Shane Farritor, a professor mechanical and materials engineering at UNL, and Dmitry Oleynikov, a professor and surgeon at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, was recently named a prestigious Game Changer Award winner by Robotics Business Review.
Four engineering students among homecoming royalty finalists
Four College of Engineering students - Jonathan Berger (mechanical and materials engineering), Christopher Davidson (biological systems engineering), Ryan Drvol (mechanical and materials engineering) and Kathryn Rentfro (chemical and biomedical engineering) - are among the 20 UNL seniors selected as 2015 homecoming royalty finalists. The king and queen will be elected by the student body in an online vote Thursday and will be crowned at halftime of Nebraska's football game against Southern Miss, which begins Saturday at 11 a.m.
Luck receives ASABE professional development award
Joe Luck, assistant professor of biological systems engineering, is the recipient of the 2015 Gale A. Holloway Professional Development Award. The honor is for Luck's exemplary support of career development and membership activities within the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers.
Huang heads portion of solar cell project
Jinsong Huang, associate professor of mechanical and materials engineering, is heading the UNL portion of a new solar cell project led by Brown University and funded by the National Science Foundation. With $1.3 million of NSF support, Huang’s team will explore molecular-level properties of cells made from perovskite, a class of cost-efficient crystalline materials that represent a promising alternative to industry standard silicon.
Grad student Stauffer gets AISC Education Foundation scholarship
Steven Stauffer, a graduate student in civil engineering, has been awarded a $3,000 American Institute of Steel Construction Education Foundation scholarship, one of 20 given to students across the country. Recipients of this scholarship must be undergraduate juniors or seniors or master's-level graduate students in civil, architectural or construction engineering or in construction management
Woldt named chair of ASABE committee
