The Master of Engineering Management (MEM) program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is No. 18 on the U.S. News & World Report's 2017 list of the best online graduate engineering programs.

It is one of many Nebraska programs that were on the magazine's rankings of Best Online Programs that were released Tuesday.

U.S. News evaluates quality online graduate education programs based on five categories – student engagement, student services and technology, admissions selectivity, faculty credentials and training, and peer reputation.

The MEM program's overall placement is 23 places higher than three years ago when it debuted on the list of the top graduate engineering programs. On the 2017 list, the MEM program ranks among the elite programs in the country and is tied with Ohio State for fifth place among Big Ten Conference institutions.

Offered in collaboration with Nebraska's College of Business Administration's MBA program, the MEM is a professional practice-oriented advanced degree that features a 30 credit-hour program with courses taught in accelerated eight-week sessions.

The MEM is designed for individuals who have a degree in engineering or quantitative area. The degree is appropriate for engineers in all fields and can either be completed 100 percent online or online with some in-class engineering electives offered at the college's Lincoln and Omaha campuses.

The MEM degree provides students with technical project management and organizational leadership skills in the engineering workplace. Students integrate business and engineering principles in solving problems, making decisions and managing risks in complex engineering scenarios. This practice empowers students to confidently lead projects that are both innovative and cost effective.
