University of Nebraska–Lincoln Civil & Environmental Engineering students showcased their engineering skills, creativity, and teamwork at the 2026 Mid-America American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Symposium, hosted by Southern Illinois University, bringing home several awards across multiple competitions.

Throughout the semester, members of UNL's ASCE Student Chapter dedicated countless hours to designing, building, and testing their competition projects. Their efforts included constructing and racing their concrete canoe, Scarlet Lightning, as well as fabricating and assembling steel and 3D-printed bridges.

The Huskers' hard work and innovation earned recognition in several categories:

  • Concrete Bowling: 1st Place
  • Steel Bridge: 2nd Place in Lightness
  • 3D-Printed Bridge: Best Design, Best Presentation, Fastest Assembly Time, and 3rd Place Overall
  • Sustainable Solutions: 3rd Place

These accomplishments highlight the students' ability to apply classroom knowledge to real-world engineering challenges while developing valuable skills in design, construction, problem-solving, and collaboration.

Congratulations to all the students who represented Nebraska Engineering! The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is proud of their dedication, creativity, and outstanding achievements. Their success reflects the strength of hands-on learning and student leadership at UNL.
