This one and a half day workshop takes place and will give secondary educators insight into how environmental engineering problems are approached and solved by applying math and science principles.
Benefits of Attending
Educators attending the workshop will use math, chemistry, and physics to solve problems, perform simple experiments, make measurements, and analyze data. These activities will be done in a classroom environment and may be appropriate to incorporate into courses you teach.
Intended Audience
New and experienced math, physics, and chemistry teachers for high school level courses.
Workshop Facilitators
The faculty from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering will facilitate the workshop.
Date and Time
July 29-30, 2024 (Monday and Tuesday)
First day
Workshop (including lunch): 10:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Dinner and tour of local consulting firm: 5 - 7 p.m. (optional)
Second day
Workshop: 8:00 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Lunch and visit with local environmental professionals about other fields similar to environmental engineering: 12 - 1 p.m.
Location
Kiewit Hall in Lincoln (1700 Vine Street) on City Campus
Stipends
Due to generous donations from the Nebraska Section American Water Works Association, Nebraska Water Environment Association, UNL Engineering Alumni and particularly the UNL Civil and Environmental Engineering Advisory Board, stipends will be available to workshop attendees that are high school STEM teachers in the state of Nebraska. The stipend amounts are:
- High schools within 100 miles of Lincoln: $300
- High schools between 100 miles and 200 miles from Lincoln: $400
- High schools more than 200 miles from Lincoln: $500
