Nebraska Engineering faculty, post-doc earn NSRI research awards
At the National Strategic Research Institute's Researcher Recognition event on Nov. 2 in La Vista, two Nebraska Engineering faculty -- Dennis Alexander, professor of electrical and computer engineering; and Wallace Buchholz, research professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering -- were awarded NSRI Distinguished Scientist awards. Craig Zuhlke, a post-doctoral resarch assistant in electrical and computer engineering, received the NSRI Exceptional Post-Doctoral Research award.
Three engineering students chosen to Franco's List
Three engineering students -- senior Alfred Kurt Berchtold (chemical and biomolecular), sophomore Alison Manske (biomedical), and Mohammed Hussain (chemical and biomolecular) -- are among the 32 UNL students chosen to Franco's List, which honors UNL students with high academic achievement who also exhibit "the positive characteristics that are part of being a person of integrity."
Fourteen students receive UCARE undergraduate stipends
UNL's Undergraduate Creative Activities and Research Experience (UCARE) Program has awarded 87 stipends, 14 to engineering undergraduates, to participate in research with a faculty mentor this summer:
Biological Systems Engineering: Janelle Adams, Hickman; Victoria Bart, Woodbury, Minnesota; Josiah Johnson, Lincoln; Blake Hass, West Point; and Alexandra Hruby, Omaha.
Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering: Braden Harm, Grove City, Ohio; Joshua Mueller, Bellevue; Brynne Schwabauer, Portland, Oregon; and Matthew Sis, Bellevue.
Electrical and Computer Engineering: Phuong Ninh, Lincoln; and Timothy Carlson, Norfolk.
Mechanical and Materials Engineering: Hamood Al Rahbi, Lincoln; Matthew Bock, Omaha; and Beau Marth, Lincoln.
UNL engineering students among 29 chosen to Franco's List
UNL engineering students Samantha Nelson, a senior in biological systems engineering, and Tanner Gosda, a senior in chemical engineering, and chemical engineering student worker Paige Gerber are among the 29 UNL students honored for their positive characteristics and integrity by being named to "Franco's List." The honor - named after Juan Franco, UNL vice chancellor for student affairs - recognizes students identified as demonstrating the positive characteristics that are part of being a person of integrity.
Four engineering students among homecoming royalty finalists
Four College of Engineering students - Jonathan Berger (mechanical and materials engineering), Christopher Davidson (biological systems engineering), Ryan Drvol (mechanical and materials engineering) and Kathryn Rentfro (chemical and biomedical engineering) - are among the 20 UNL seniors selected as 2015 homecoming royalty finalists. The king and queen will be elected by the student body in an online vote Thursday and will be crowned at halftime of Nebraska's football game against Southern Miss, which begins Saturday at 11 a.m.
McNair Scholars Program picks three engineering students
Three UNL engineering students were chosen to take part in UNL's McNair Scholars Program for the fall semester of the 2014-15 academic year -- Brittney Bridger-Burton, a mechanical engineering major; and Zully Perez Sierra, a chemical engineering major -- were chosen to the McNair Cohort; and Daniel Rico, a biological systems engineering major, was chosen a McNair Scholar.
Five engineering students among homecoming royalty
Five engineering students - Joseph Farley (mechanical), Zach Foster (chemical), Shane Manning (agricultural), Mary Pistillo (mechanical) and Claire Uryasz (biological systems) - are among the 20 UNL students chosen as homecoming royalty finalists.
