About Yunping Liang

Dr. Yunping Liang is Assistant Professor in Construction and Infrastructure System Engineering at UNL. Liang’s research interests are at the intersections of Civil Engineering, Operations Research, and Public Policy. Currently, Liang’s research strives to enhance infrastructure development by improving accountability and effectiveness, promoting equal opportunities in project development, and maximizing resources on sustainable facilities.

Ph.D. Openings

Dr. Yunping Liang is accepting applications from prospective Ph.D. students and visiting scholars in the board interdisciplinary area of sustainable infrastructure development. Enrolled students will work with Dr. Liang on topics such as (1) public-private partnerships for rural broadband development; (2) public opposition risks for mega infrastructure projects; (3) economic and financial analysis for rural distributed energy production system; and (4) equitable infrastructure development facilitating active mobility.

Minimum qualifications (besides UNL requirements)

  • B.S. degree in one of the related majors. M.S. is normally required for Ph.D. applicants.
  • Knowledge/ background in research-related areas.
  • Skill sets in advanced quantitative research methods (e.g., statistics, machine learning, simulation, optimization) or qualitative research methods (e.g., social science). Applicants without required research skills are expected to pass designated courses from corresponding departments (e.g., Introduction to Deep Learning from School of Computing) within the first two years of enrollment.
  • Full English proficiency, if international applicants (TOFEL>=100, or IELTS>=7).
  • Strong professional ethics (e.g., punctual, reliable, collaborative, productive, dedicated)
