About Coursera Academy Plus
College of Engineering students, faculty, and alumni now have the opportunity to pursue Coursera Career Academy certificates at no cost. This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting professional growth, lifelong learning, and teaching innovation.
Through Coursera Career Academy Plus, participants gain access to professional certificates developed by leading industry and university partners such as Google, IBM, Meta, Duke University, Johns Hopkins University, and more. These programs provide practical, industry-recognized credentials that can be applied immediately in the workplace or leveraged to advance career opportunities.

Faculty
Faculty are invited to explore and integrate Coursera courses and projects in their courses and programs. With Coursera Career Academy, students and instructors have access to a wide range of high-quality resources to enrich teaching and learning experiences. We are actively exploring effective ways to support the thoughtful integration of these materials throughout the college’s offerings. The instructions to access these courses are below:
- Follow this UNL COE Coursera trial link.
- Log in/sign up using your UNL email.
- Click “join” on the top corner. This will give you access to our available programs for free.
- Browse our available programs through either of these options:
- View the full list of available certificates, courses and guided projects. You can access the Coursera content by clicking the provided link or searching the name in Coursera.
- The Coursera interface allows you to browse programs by roles or text search.
- Please contact an instructional designer to set up your Coursera program, if you have any questions, or to discuss ways to integrate Coursera.

- The hours listed on Coursera tend to be higher than the average time taken by learners. See the excel sheet to view the average total learning hours of each course.
- Courses listed here are free once you join using your UNL email address. Please ensure you are logged in with your UNL address and have selected "join" if you are prompted to pay or join a free trial.

Next Steps
After completing your registration, you will receive an email from Coursera platform by the start of your access date to join the College of Engineering Alumni Program. After receiving this email, complete the following steps to get started.
Step 1: Join the Program
Following the instructions in the email, sign up using the same email address you provided in your registration form. If you use a different email address, you will not receive free access to the program.
Click "join" to gain access to all courses and learning materials available through the College of Engineering Alumni Program on Coursera.
Step 2: Explore Courses and Certificates
Once you join, you can browse available courses and programs. There are two different ways to explore the content.
- Browse programs by category or text search within the Coursera web application.
- View the full list of available certificates, courses and guided projects. You can access the Coursera content by clicking the provided link or searching for the name in Coursera.
Program Sessions and Dates
Note the deadlines below. Registration is capped and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Spring Session
- Registration closes: December 15th
- Coursera Access starts: January 1st
- Access ends: July 15th
- Fall Session
- Registration closes: June 15th

FAQs
Who can participate in this program?
All alumni of the College of Engineering are welcome to participate in this program.
What is the cost of earning certificates through this program?
We are currently exploring the best ways to support alumni with professional development and lifelong learning opportunities. Access is free during the pilot phase.
How much time do I have to complete a certificate?
Once enrolled, you’ll have 6 months of access to complete your certificates. If you need additional time, you’re welcome to register again during a future enrollment period.
Can I enroll in multiple certificates?
There is no limit to the number of certificates you may enroll in. However, we recommend focusing on 1–2 at a time to ensure the best learning experience before starting additional courses.

What happens after I complete a certificate?
- All of your earned Course Certificates will appear on your Accomplishments page, where you can download, print, or share them.
- You can also view courses you’ve completed without certificates, along with your final grades.
