BECOME A PEER COACH FOR THE
2024 ENGINEERING READINESS ACADEMY (ERA)

Applications are due April 10, 2024
ERA student staff will be responsible for 25-30 first-year engineering students on Scott Campus in Omaha. In addition to their responsibilities as student staff, they will assist first-year students in their transition to university life by sharing their experiences and advice.  The college plans to hire 5 student staff.  Interviews will be scheduled shortly after the application deadline and those selected as peer coaches will need to complete necessary hiring paperwork in advance of ERA ($12-13 per hour for up to 35 hours). 

REQUIREMENTS
  • Registered as a full-time student in the College of Engineering (Scott Campus) for Fall 2024
  • In good academic standing (3.0+ cumulative GPA preferred but will also take into account involvement in extra curricular activities)
  • Participate in two ERA Peer Coach planning meetings (June 11 & July 16, 6-7 p.m.)
  • Attend Peer Coach Training on Thursday, August 15, 3-8pm (includes team bonding activity after training is over)
  • Must be available from SATURDAY, AUG. 17 – THURSDAY, AUG. 22, 2024 for program duties *

*Staggered breaks will be available to provide for personal time. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

You will be collaborating with your fellow peer coaches, as well as the faculty and staff of ERA, to make the program a success! That means:

  • Assisting with participant check-in and welcome
  • Serving as a teaching assistant during instruction
  • Assisting participants during evening team study sessions
  • Helping organize and/or participate in daily evening coach-led activities
  • Guiding students to daily scheduled activities
  • Provide 1:1 coaching sessions with assigned students
  • Other duties as assigned

Peer Coaches are encouraged to participate in ERA events throughout the school year.

IMPORTANT NOTE: ERA participants and Peer Coaches will not be required to live on campus during ERA.  However, those planning to live on campus during the school year will be encouraged to move in on Friday, Aug. 16 with early move-in fees covered by the College of Engineering (peer coaches already living on campus during ERA will remain in their assigned suites).  All meals will be covered for the duration of ERA (Aug. 17-22) but those who purchase Scott Cafe unlimited meal plans for the fall semester will start using them when they are activated on Aug. 19.
